Sembawang Park Battleship Playground
The playground look like a racked battleship, as there is
part that is detached from the main part and build slightly tilted.

It is a friendly design as it uses wood (timber) throughout
the playground.
It also provide shelter from the sun and humid weather.
2ND Level
More intense
Playing with different height.
A rock climbing feature is available.
This is to show the difficulty faced in a battleship.
INTERIOR
PLAY AREA
SLIDING TUBE SUPPORTED BY THIN METAL POLE
SLIDES GOING AROUND THE PLAYGROUND, STARTING FROM
THE TOP AND ENDS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PLAYGROUND. IT SURPRISES ME WHEN I TRIED
IT AS I DISCOVERED A NEW PLACE.
2ND LEVEL, MORE PLAY ELEMENT IS FOUND HERE
THERE WERE CHILDREN WAITING FOR THEIR TURN TO TRY THE SWING.
THE SWING CAN CIRCULATE ALL DIRECTION.
A BIG SPACE IS LET FOR THE SWING AREA FOR SAFETY REASON.
THIS IS THE VIEW FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE INTERIOR PART OF THE
PLAYGROUND.
THE SEPARATED PLAY AREA IS CONNECTED BY BRIDGE AND SLIDE.
BISHAN PARK
This is a long bridge that is used for people to cross over or look at life in the river. It is supported by a 'Y-shaped' column. The width of the bridge is wide, thus allowing 2 flow of opposite direction.
Due to the uneven climate, there need to be shelters and resting area. This shelter is designed like a leaf, it gives a natural feel to user.
For my design, i also have a separated land just like a river. This pebbles give me idea of how to connect the 2 land together so that people can travel effectively( shorter route).
This is a hill that is made up of concrete and stone. The layers of step is also applied in my design for sitting area.
The view of the sculpture from ground level.
Playground
Plantation within the playground, the designer still apply the natural element within a place where there will be lots of running, jumping and accident.
The wall is punctured with holes.
This is also another design that looks like my depressed platform. The use of concrete as sitting area. Due to the breath taking scenery, i think people wouldn't mind sitting on just concrete in an opened space and enjoying the view.
Reflection:
Over all, i think that both park has inspired me to achieve a better design for P1. Sembawang Park has a thrilling and adventurous experience for me. I will apply what i have experience in Sembawang Park playground into my rock climbing hall. Playing with the different height, texture and shape.
Bishan Park is no wonder an award winning park. It has a well balance of modern and nature to it. When i first reach there, i knew that this is what i wanted to achieve, a sustainable park in a city. I will try to add in more greenery in my design to give the sense of freshness and stress-free, as most of my users are people coming from the town/city area.
PW: Remember your task is to visit 2 playgrounds related to your own project. Good job with the photographs of Sembawang park. I like to hear your reflection and evaluation of the park and how you can integrate some of the new ideas into your own project.
